Taragalte cultural centre and ecolodge

Together with our partners Halim and Ibrahim Sbai, Bureau East and Sahara Roots, Hester Ezra and Charlotte Eijsbouts spent an amazing week in the desert crafting possibilities for a cultural centre and ecolodge in the South of Morocco. Our plans focus both on preserving cultural traditions and the wellbeing of the environment, while simultaneously empowering the local community

The delicate balance of the ecosystem of the Sahara is in danger, the oasis villages are becoming engulfed with sand. Action is needed and we hope to be part of it by sharing our experience in the coming years. While there they also took part in the Taragalte festival and witnessed some of the best music and dancing of the Sahara. Together with the local villagers we planted trees. The first water for the trees came from the water containers which were hand decorated by the local woman. This was the first step in crafting objects for the future cultural centre and ecolodge.
